Sicilian meatballs with peppers. There are those who think that the meatballs with tomato sauce are a winter dish. This – actually – might also be true, but for those who love the meatballs every month of the year is suitable: that's why today I give you a Sicilian recipe, from Meatball employee which are, She helped me overcome many summers: meatballs with sweet and sour peppers. As you know in Sicily and sour dishes are plentiful, starting from caponata, and mostly lukewarm or, even better, cold food: are therefore perfect even in summer. In this dish that really tells a bit of my story, the meatballs are traditionally made with a mixture of ground beef and pork, but you can use the type of meat you prefer. The combination with peppers, the tomato and the onion is one of the flags of our kitchen, as well as the vibrant colors.

If you want, You can also try the Sicilian sweet and sour meatballs, a simplified version and the winter in Sicily you do all year, or the meatballs with anchovies and salmon (I love them), or you could join the first and second and try the legendary spaghetti with meatballs. In short, have a look at all my RECIPES OF MEATBALLS and at RECIPES WITH PEPPERS and you will surely find something you like.

This dish must be rich in vegetables and gravy, don't skimp on the toppings and try to use peppers at least two colors, not just a cosmetic issue, but also of taste. I recommend, the meatballs should be not too small, otherwise they will be little soft. Is’ the classic dish that you can prepare in advance and that you can prepare also for picnics, days at the beach or picnic. Have a good day!

500 grams of minced meat mixed between pork and beef

2 slices white bread or 60 grams of bread crumbs

whole milk (or water), to taste

1 whole egg

60 grams of shredded PDO parmigiano Reggiano

30 grams of grated pecorino cheese Dop

salt and pepper, to taste

chopped parsley, to taste

a clove of garlic

500 ml of tomato puree

2 red onions

extra virgin olive oil, to taste

40 ml red wine vinegar

30 grams of sugar

Salt, to taste

a small piece of chili pepper (Optional)

Procedure

To prepare meatballs with sweet and sour peppers, put the sliced bread or bread crumbs in a bowl and pour the milk, Once you have softened, squeeze it with care. Put in a bowl the minced beef and pork, the egg, finely chopped garlic and parsley, the bread that you have soaked in milk, Parmesan cheese and grated pecorino. Season with salt and pepper and mix well to obtain a homogeneous mixture. Form ground beef meatballs oval round and slightly crushed and then FRY in peanut oil until they are golden brown (but not cook too, otherwise it will harden).

For the sauce, wash well in peppers, delete the petiole, the seeds and stringy internal parts, then cut them into pieces not large and regular size. Peel the onion and cut it into thin slices. Put extra virgin olive oil in a saucepan, Add the onion and chilli (If you like) and Brown for a few minutes, then add the peppers, Sauté for a few minutes over medium heat and add the tomato sauce. Season with salt, cover and cook over low heat for 10 minutes or until the peppers are tender not. Mix red wine vinegar and sugar in a glass, then pour the mixture into the pan and cook over medium heat until the vinegar is shaded. Arrange the meatballs to the pan with the sauce, cover and cook for 5-10 minutes.

Meatballs with sweet and sour peppers are eaten just warm or cold, then let it sit in the sauce as much as possible, Even so that the flavors blend perfectly. That's yummy, so I wish you good appetite!

MATCHING: Horus Mylae is a brewery in the province of Milazzo. Produces a beer called Victory, produced with native Sicilian grain, combined with American hops. Aromas of citrus and fresh herbs give it a character very blunt. The note on the palate pleasing balance sweet and sour. It's a beer with great ease of drinking, in a sign of an easy drinking typical summer.
